For a long time my life was filled with “have to” and “should do” things. The “have to” things weren’t always easy but, I just did them because … well, I had to! Things like working and paying the bills are the “have to’s” Just get them done with as little complaining as possible and try to figure out how to enjoy them if at all possible. The “should do” things are very different. These are the things we think we should do because that was how we were raised or because society says we should. I should clean my house, I should lose weight, I should act a certain way. How many times during the day do you say I should do something? Do you really want to do that thing or do you think you should because that is what society dictates? Think about it? Should you lose weight or do you want to lose weight? They are very different statements and energetically come from very different sources. I am working hard to let go of the should do list and focus more on my want to list. The funny thing is that when you let go of the feeling of should, you feel more empowered and some of those things actually move to your want to list because you feel more in control and are doing things for the right reasons and not out of some odd form of self-imposed obligation. Should is filled with guilt, resentment, low-energy, sadness, unworthiness and obligation. Release it all my sweet friend, it is weighing you down.
